AMC Institute Advocates for Economic Relief for Associations and their Association Management Companies

AMC Institute hires the Public Policy Group at Polsinelli, led by Former Congressmen John Shadegg and Alan D. Wheat

Alexandria, Virginia – AMC Institute announced that they have retained Polsinelli’s Public Policy Practice, led by the Honorable John Shadegg and the Honorable Alan D. Wheat. The Polsinelli Public Policy team will drive the AMC Institute’s advocacy efforts before Congress to recognize and include association management companies (AMCs) and their association clients in current and future COVID-19 economic relief programs.

“We are so pleased to be able to retain Polsinelli. The skills and experience of their Public Policy unit, as well as having access to attorneys in the firm that are well versed in SBA and DOL regulations, make them a natural fit, says Bennett Napier, CAE, 2020 AMC Institute Board Chair. “This effort by AMC Institute ensures that the unique staffing model that AMCs bring to not-for-profit organizations, and that unique perspective, will be at the table as various policy makers consider programs to protect small businesses, both for-profit and not-for-profit.”

The Public Policy Group at Polsinelli is bipartisan in their client representation and includes former members of Congress, as well as chiefs of staff to committees and individual members. Congressman Shadegg served in Congress for eight terms, where he held a variety of leadership positions including Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee.  With 18 years of experience as an elected official, Congressman Wheat remains a highly regarded figure both on Capitol Hill and within the Administration.

“Polsinelli is honored to partner with the AMC Institute, its member AMCs and all the associations they serve.  Especially during this period of economic uncertainty, it’s vital the AMC message is clearly heard, understood and acted upon by federal policy makers,” says Congressman Wheat.

The CARES Act Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) provides $349 billion for small businesses and an upgraded Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program at the Small Business Administration allocates $10 billion in disaster relief grants.  The AMC Institute is calling on Congress to extend this essential financial aid to both AMCs and their full-service managed association clients.
